Understanding Lymphoedema
Lymphoedema is a chronic condition characterised by swelling in the body's tissues, commonly affecting the arms or legs. This occurs when the lymphatic system fails to function properly. While there is no cure, the symptoms can be managed effectively through various techniques to reduce fluid build-up.
Types of Lymphoedema
- Primary Lymphoedema: Develops independently.
- Secondary Lymphoedema: Results from another health condition.
If you suspect you have symptoms of Lymphoedema, please contact your GP. For cancer patients, your care team will monitor you for Lymphoedema. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in preventing the condition from worsening.
