Norfolk Community Inpatients Dietetics Team
We are a team of Dietitians and a Dietetic Assistants who working closely with the team on the ward to provide dietetic advice to patients. This includes nutrition support, use of nutritional supplements, guidance those needing a modified consistency diet for swallowing difficulties and assisting feeding plans for patients with feeding tubes. Also, we may provide generic advice for patients that fall outside of our referral criteria.
The Community Inpatient Dietetic team, provide a dietetic service to the NCHC inpatient units, covering:
- Caroline House and Pine Cottage at the Colman Hospital
- Alder and Beech ward, Mulberry Unit, Norwich Community Hospital
- Ogden Court, Wymondham
- Foxley ward, Dereham Hospital
- Swaffham Community Hospital
- Kelling Hospital
- North Walsham Hospital
- Priscilla Bacon Hospital
Food Services Dietician
As well as the clinical service, the team have a Food Services Dietitian who works alongside the Estates and Facilities team. They manage the catering service, ensuring nutritional adequacy of the menu options, and organise training for the wards on topics such as nutritional screening / ‘MUST’, nutrition support, diabetes and healthy eating.
The Food Service Dietitian role is advisory at present and, where appropriate, provides support with:

Developing and reviewing menus to meet national nutritional standards.

Ensuring the safe provision of special diets, including allergen‑free and texture‑modified meals.

Working closely with catering, nursing, and clinical teams to meet patient needs.

Supporting compliance with food safety standards, allergen legislation, and NHS catering guidance.

Monitoring food service quality through audits, feedback, and improvement projects.

Providing staff training on nutrition, allergies, and safe food service.

Leading service improvements to enhance the patient mealtime experience.

Referral
We accept referrals for the following:
- Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (‘MUST’) of 2 or more
- Dysphagia and concerns about ability to meet nutritional requirements
- Patients with enteral feeding tubes in situ
Referrals for other conditions may be considered on a case-by-case basis so please contact the dietetics team to discuss this further
