Student apprentice physiotherapist presented with heartfelt portrait from patient
A student apprentice physiotherapist from Norfolk has been gifted a unique and meaningful portrait by a patient, in recognition of the care and support he provided during her treatment.
Oliver Needham, a Student Apprentice Physiotherapist, was presented with the painting by Chris, a patient he supported during her time using the service. Chris, who has been receiving care following a cancer diagnosis, has been painting portraits of healthcare staff across different Trusts as part of her therapy and as a way of saying thank you to those who have supported her.
As part of this, Chris chose to paint Oliver after working with him during her rehabilitation. The portrait reflects both her gratitude and the positive impact of the care she received from Oliver and the wider MSK team.
Oliver said he was delighted to receive the portrait and described it as much more than just a painting.
“Thank you for this portrait, Chris. It represents far more than an image; it reflects the unwavering support of the MSK team. Since joining in September, they have given me the opportunity to work with patients, develop my skills and knowledge, and take meaningful steps toward becoming the physiotherapist I aspire to be.”
The portrait now serves as a lasting reminder of the connection between patients and staff, and the difference compassionate care can make, not only to patient outcomes, but also to the people delivering that care.
