Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to make a real difference in your local community. Volunteers make a unique and valuable contribution to our Trust. They make a big difference to the people who use our services, our communities and our staff.

Our volunteers enable us to deliver high-quality care that goes above and beyond the core services delivered. Volunteers do not replace existing paid workers’ roles. They complement and support the work that staff do across the Trust.

Volunteering with us

Volunteering is different to work experience or employment. We ask our volunteers to commit to at least 6 months of volunteering with us. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, who represent the diversity of our communities and bring with them a wide range of skills and experience.

We know that a more informal and personal approach is essential to encourage volunteers from all areas of the community to give their time to our organisation. We aim to be as flexible as possible to support you to volunteer with us.

We will provide all the training and support you need to carry out your role comfortably and enjoy your time as a volunteer with us.

We want to be an outstanding place to volunteer – we know that volunteering is a choice. We hope that you choose us!

Benefits of volunteering

Your volunteering experience with our Trust offers you:

  • the opportunity to make new friends and meet new people
  • the opportunity to gain confidence and experience in an NHS environment
  • the opportunity to develop new skills or use existing skills you may have
  • recognition of the value you bring to our organisation
  • the opportunity to give back and influence our services
  • support and guidance for those volunteers who wish to explore a career in the NHS

Volunteer support

You will be supported by:

  • the volunteer team
  • a member of staff in the team you are volunteering with

You will need to complete training as part of your volunteer role. Further training may also be available to you during your time as a volunteer.

We can reimburse out-of-pocket expenses related to volunteering with us.

Recruitment checks

Safeguarding is everybody’s business. We take safeguarding very seriously as a Trust. Recruitment checks will be undertaken for volunteers in line with NHS Employers guidance.

Work experience

Volunteering is different to work experience.

For our volunteering roles, we ask you to commit to volunteering regularly for a minimum of 6 months and undertake recruitment checks before you get started.

Work experience is a short term opportunity where you can spend time with our teams observing their roles.
